Este estudio se indica cuando hay\u00a0 s\u00edntomas que sugieran enfermedad coronaria, o ante un programa de ejercicio en adultos con factores de riesgo cardiovascular (tabaquismo, diabetes, hipertensi\u00f3n, colesterol alto), o historia familiar de infarto o accidentes cerebro-vasculares . El test de esfuerzo identifica la presencia de enfermedad coronaria en 3 de cada 4 pacientes, y la descarta en un 90 %.<\/p>\n

Se puede hacer sobre una cinta rodante. Se colocan electrodos\u00a0 en el t\u00f3rax (para registro de ECG) y un manguito de presi\u00f3n, y el paciente anda por la cinta rodante. El m\u00e9dico que supervisa la prueba observa mientras tanto los cambios en tensi\u00f3n arterial, pulso y trazados ECG. La prueba se completa en media hora, y se abandona antes si aparecen cambios sugestivos de enfermedad en los par\u00e1metros observados, o si el paciente no la tolera f\u00edsicamente, por agotamiento o por dificultad para respirar.<\/p>\n
